Robyn Stephens, Executive Director

For more than 20 years, Robyn has been helping young people discover that building robots is really about building confidence, teamwork, and creativity.

Through her work with school and community-based robotics teams, Robyn has guided students from their very first LEGO build all the way to the FIRST World Championships, where she’s taken 15 teams over the past decade. She’s mentored programs that have competed at the North Carolina State Championships for both FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge, and supported teams traveling to invitationals across the country.

Robyn doesn’t just coach—she builds experiences. She’s led STEM summer camps for local schools, launched community robotics programs, and created spaces where kids learn to solve problems, celebrate their quirks, and discover their potential through teamwork and innovation.

A dedicated volunteer and leader within the FIRST community, Robyn has served on state advisory and planning committees for both FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) in North Carolina. She plays a key role in running and organizing events at both the state and international levels, helping shape the competition experience for teams across the region and around the world. Her experience as a judge and judge advisor spans FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Robotics Challenge, FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST Global, giving her a unique perspective on how to support students and mentors at every level of competition.

At Bull City Robotics, Robyn’s goal is simple: to make STEM learning exciting, inclusive, and real. She believes every student should have the chance to see themselves as an innovator—and every team should leave a season stronger, more connected, and ready for what’s next.
